About Compound Interest

Compound interest is interest earned on both your original deposit and the interest that has already accumulated. Unlike simple interest, which grows in a straight line, compound interest grows exponentially: each period's interest joins the principal, so the next period earns interest on a larger base. The effect is small at first and dramatic over long horizons, which is why time is often described as your greatest asset in investing. Starting earlier with a modest amount can outperform starting later with a larger one.

The formula is FV = P × (1 + r/n)^(n×t), where P is principal, r is the annual rate, n is compounding frequency, and t is years. This calculator runs 100% client-side in your browser. Your deposit, rate, and term are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored on a server — no account, no signup, no tracking. Financial data is sensitive, and keeping the math on your own device means your numbers stay private. Results are estimates for planning only and do not account for taxes, fees, or inflation.
